Suzuki’s restoration of two Barry Sheene machines; a DAF Trucks-sponsored 1984 Harris-framed XR45 RG500 and a special XR23A 652cc big bore RG500, has been voted best manufacturer feature of the 2019 edition of Motorcycle Live – the third consecutive win for this particular award for Suzuki.

Suzuki Hat-trick for Motorcycle Live Award

Undertaking the restoration during the show were Team Classic Suzuki mechanics Martyn Ogborne (Barry Sheene’s mechanic during his championship-winning seasons) and experienced technician and Suzuki expert, Nigel Everett.

The project was supported by Suzuki’s Vintage Parts Programme, which has supplied some of the show’s finest entertainment in previous years and continues to provide a lifeline for a huge selection of timeless Suzuki motorcycles.

The award was presented based solely on visitor feedback, making it all the more meaningful to Suzuki GB’s aftersales marketing co-ordinator, Tim Davies, who commented:

“To win this award for the third time in a row is absolutely fantastic and very rewarding for the work that the team put in, it makes it all worthwhile. To be able to engage with so many people at MCL in this way is fantastic. To listen and talk to so many people about their memories of Barry whether it be about racing or his colourful personality is always great fun.”

Suzuki’s new V-Strom 1050XT Adventure Motorbike

Suzuki’s new 1050XT was on display in the UK for the first time at the event, where the Japanese brand displayed its full 2020 model range, as well as a range of retro DR BIG motorcycles and Team Classic Suzuki vintage machines.

Motorcycle Live is the biggest motorcycle show in the UK, and takes place for nine days annually in November.
