1 review for Suzuki SV650

  1. MotorbikeMike

Designed and manufactured in 1998, the Suzuki SV650 has become one of Suzuki’s most popular models. A 645cc four stroke V-twin engine, which was reworked in 2003 to come with emission friendly fuel injection, this bike is perfect for riding about town and for weekend sport rides alike.

The Suzuki SV650 makes a perfect first ‘big bike’, ideal for new riders, or someone upgrading from a smaller model. With a v-twin, the chassis is nice and slim, which creates a relaxed and comfortable riding position, ideal for longer journeys. The engine is powerful and packs a punch, while the brakes are strong and are great at stopping the bike at even high speeds. Though the soft suspension can hinder the performance of the bike, this is easily rectified with a simple upgrade.

This stunning bike is sporty in look and feel, however, its performance is reduced on longer journeys, so it may not be the ideal bike for sports touring. The Suzuki SV650 does make the ideal track day bike. It is simple and inexpensive to replace the fork springs and rear shock, allowing you to ensure your bike has optimum performance. The engine is robust and while the cam chain tensioner can start to stick, which can lead to a noisy motor, it is cheap to fix. One weakness this bike has are the rectifiers, but again, this is a simple and cheap job to remedy. The Suzuki SV650 is therefore, on the whole, a reliable and robust ride, that can be upgraded and repaired easily and cheaply (in most cases) and is perfect for commuting and sporting.
